September 2010 Student Activities Calendar
Extra-curricular programs at Chester College of New England are designed to enhance and enrich the learning experience. Students are expected to be active members of the campus community, both in and out of the classroom. The Student Services office is organized to help facilitate numerous student programs and activities that complement the classroom experience and that provide positive creative, cultural, athletic and social activities for all students.
The Student Services staff, in consultation with the Student Government and the Campus Activities Board, plans and schedules events for the academic year.
The activities calendar offers numerous events, ranging from dramatic performances, movie and videogame nights, ski/snowboarding trips, art and photography exhibits, dances, pool and dart tournaments, trips to the beach and mountains, art nights and Alternative Spring Break trips.
As there are no varsity athletics on campus, sports activities are informal. The College's extensive campus provides students with ample space for games of ultimate Frisbee, kickball, flag football, soccer, basketball and volleyball, which occur throughout the year. The entire college community may also take full advantage of the nature trails on campus.
Residential life is designed to empower students in becoming mature, responsible adults, with focus on community building and mutual respect. Within this environment, a Residential Director is responsible for helping to provide safety and comfort for all residents. The residences are also staffed with Resident Assistants--upper classmen who are trained in first aid, conflict mediation, and academic support, who help to facilitate community building within the residence halls.
In addition to the activities available on campus, the surrounding region provides students with further recreational opportunities. Chester College of New England is situated in an area that is resplendent with natural beauty: Nearby Lake Massabesic features sailboats in the warmer months and ice fishing huts in the winter, while the picturesque White Mountains lie within an hour’s drive, and New Hampshire's historic coastline is forty minutes away. Cities within a hour’s drive include: Portland, Maine, named one of the top 25 art cities in the country; and Boston, with its clubs, museums, and galleries.
